Susan's Blepharoplasty

9/11/00: have an appointment w/ Dr H tomorrow about doing upper and lower bleph.

9/12/00: appointment went well, she is very personable and believes I am the perfect candidate for a bleph, "eyes are the window to the soul"...scheduled for 12/22/00.

Doing lots of research on bleph...will order bleph supplies from www.contemporarydesigninc.com.

11/28/00: stop taking aspirin products, vitamin E, multi-vits...weather is a worry and drive into Boston...paid for procedure...meet OT tech and saw Dr H for a quick preop...getting excited.

12/16/00: less than a week before bleph...doing lots of research...

12/20/00: starting to get nervous and having trouble sleeping...still keeping it a secret from sisters...told Jessica only...need to set up bedroom so I can climb right in after returning from Boston...ice packs have arrived from contemporary design...got blender out to crush ice...get camera ready for pictures...oh no...snow being reported for procedure day!!!

12/21/00: can't sleep...took an Ativan she prescribed and writing in journal hoping to fall asleep.

12/22/00: yeah!!!! 4am...snowing...who cares...bleph day...shower, hair...snowing...bedroom all setup...food ready...notes for kids...no school..snow day...zipup sweatshirt...pull on sweatpants...no makeup...scary!...pre-op picture...snow...5:30am...time to leave...snowing.

7:30am: arrived at New England medical center...up to Biewind 11th floor...no one here...OR nurse arrives...nervous!!!!...8am...still waiting...finally dr H arrives...snowing...into procedure room and into a gown. IV started by anesthesiologist/standup comedian...great guy...kiss from sweetie darling...dr H in sleep...

Awake and walking into room with recliner and eyes are painful...really painful and throbbing. Everyone standing around and talking...Dr H saying everything went perfectly and looks at my eyes...I ask for pain med...remember someone putting a cracker in my mouth...now a Percocet...and ice pack...ouch!!!! Ice pack hurts more than nothing...sweatshirt on...ready to go home...everyone happy...especially me...stopped at CVS for meds...erythromycin eye ointment...pain meds...home and into bed. Sleep.

Woke up with fresh ice packs...sweetie taking good care of me...advise: ice is your friend...pillows elevated and remote nearby...I bent down to grab a tissue. don't do that again!!!!!

12/25/000: bruising but I can open my eyes without any problem...my son was not happy to see me bruised and swollen.

12/26/00: 4 days post op. eyes are very swollen and eyesight is getting clearer each day...very nauseous from the pain meds...sutures itchy...can't wait for them to come out...eyes burning...I am so glad I did this! It will be wonderful when the swelling foes down and I can have a make over for my eyes.

12/27/00: back into Boston and sutures out. It didn't hurt but felt really weird. Dr H very happy with the results...me too!!!

12/29/00: 1 week post op...tough day...eyes fell like sand...tight and gummy...eye drops and the ointment help along with warm compresses.

12/30/00: wearing makeup.

1/13/02: back to school and when I sat down, Eric turned around and took a double take and said, "Susan I never noticed what beautiful eyes you have." Jessica giggled...only she knows. What a wonderful compliment and testimony to Dr H's talent.

Revision: 2 years later

I have one small area on my right upper lid that just doesn't look right. Dr H agrees and will redo that small area of right eye.

Some valium, local to the right lid and off comes the little extra skin. Dissolvable sutures and after 30 minutes, my eyes are perfect.
